Immigration, Integration & Identity in Europe

Copenhagen, June 6 – 10th,  2004

--A short term program designed for Washington and Lee University’s Faculty Members June 2004.

The overall topic of this short term program is to investigate and discuss how Denmark and Europe are adapting to a more culturally diverse society, and specifically how the EU countries are dealing with the many multicultural issues that have arisen due to the change of composition in the population. The increased number of immigrants and refugees from non-European countries have created new challenges for Europe to deal with.

The program will offer possibilities to learn, discuss and investigate how multiculturalism is viewed and perceived in Denmark. Included in the program are different field trips designed to give participants a chance to see different parts of Copenhagen, as well as the southern part of Sweden (Malmø).

A Danish student worker at DIS, Christina Lambertsen, will show the group around Copenhagen and take the participants to the various meetings outside of the DIS building.
